Lion - Panthera leo

The apex predator of the African continent, the ‘king of the jungle’. There are few who wouldn’t know a lion when they see one. These majestic big cats are the only cat species that live communally in a pride. 

The Lion is currently listed as ‘Vulnerable’ on the IUCN Redlist. They face a number of threats, the biggest being contact with man. Many lions are killed in retaliation or pre-emptive actions to save domestic livestock. Habitat loss, poaching for Traditional Chinese Medicine and Trophy Hunting have also contributed to their demise.
